St. Joseph, the Carpenter

Our nephew joined the army
and his first day of bootcamp was Monday.

As I sat in daily mass this morning,
a most wonderful
(and deeply comforting)
thought came.

St. Joseph was a carpenter,
pretty close to a present day
"Horizontal Construction Engineer,"
yes?

I sure think so.

Grace.

Trustin' that St. Joseph
is watching over our boy
as we continue to hold him
in our thoughts and prayers.

St. Michael, the Archangel,
protect our troops.

Amen.

Savouring January - Day 13 & 14 - Soothe and Joy

A warm cup of creamy cocoa
on a cold winter’s Sunday evening
soothes body and soul
while my newest mug and fluffy sweet marshmallows
delights the heart,
bringing many a Joyful smile.

To Bless the Space Between Us . . .

This tender photo touches me so
and has become quite a guiding light
and touchstone for me, too.

How do I let go of a painful situation?

This is how...

Stand calmly, quietly in my truth,
knowing what I know.

Instead of expecting and aching
for what they can't/won't give
(for whatever reasons that might be),
choose to let it be by
sending love and warmth
(as best I can in each moment).

Shine in your own little space in the night sky,
dearest one,
all while blessing the space between us.

Help me, Mama?
Right here, Baby Girl.

Yes.

Blessed be.

Savouring January - Day 11 - Thoughts

Sometimes I don’t even know what I think
until I start writing.

Taking the time to put pen to paper
(or fingers to keyboard)
often helps me to untangle
what’s going on inside of me.

Having a lit candle nearby
reminds me that this really is prayer
and that I am never alone
when I pour out my heart on the page.

I am deeply grateful for my journal,
my trusted, faithful friend and witness.

Blessed be.

Savouring January - Day 10 - Nature

While not as chilly as it has been,
this January day was gray and damp as predicted.

Stopping by to say hey to Mary is always good,
heartwarming medicine for both body and soul.

Blessed be.

Christmas Happy Mail

Today I received a thoughtful Gift
from a dear friend
that couldn’t be more perfect!

 From the label,
the giggles from the styrofoam pillows
(clever recycling!),
to the wrapping papers -
both silver and powder blue!

And the actual,
deeply thoughtful Gifts themselves!!

I’m smitten by the idea of
“the holy mess of my beautiful life”
and embracing it
(as best I can in each moment)
is where I will be sure to find
Auntie Joy waiting for me.

And while I’ve had my eye on it,
no, I didn’t have the book!

What a wonderful,
Joy-filled surprise
on the chilly, damp January day!

So grateful for my precious friend.

Savouring January - Day 5 - Move

Whenever I move into a new journal,
my long-held tradition
is to start by making the first page into a calendar.

And the next page?
That one is a prayer asking for blessings and guidance,
both for time spent on the pages and off.

First Eventide in 2018

Savouring January - Day 1: Still

On the days when I am feeling frazzled and/or down,
those days when I most need to let love in,
(and it's hard to even remember)
quiet time with candlelight,
being still,
and holding a heart,
all in the presence of Mama Grace helps.

Secret Reach Glass-Fire

Yes.

(Smiling softly as I had gotten way behind
on publishing blogposts
so I'm not sure why I did this reading
or what it affirmed for me.
But my "yes"
tells me it was spot on.

Remembrance - Day 7 of 40

Smiling big as these two
are the *Perfect* Sunday morning pilgrimage companions.

💜 . 💜

Judy, my favorite chaplain at the hospital was the very first woman minister that I'd
ever met.  She was both tender and tough and we spent so many hours together at my
bedside and once she had me over to her home to share a meal with her and her two
children.  Probably shouldn't have but did anyway.  I liked that rebel side of her.  It
inspired me.

She was one of those dears that I continued to send Christmas greetings to and I was
delighted whenever I'd hear back from her.  Last year, her card was returned as
non-deliverable and so I did some googling and discovered she had passed.  Her obit
includes a picture and while she doesn't look like I remember, I do love the photo as it
captures her mischievous side.

.     .    .     .      .

Karl was my most dearest and most precious Al-Anon sponsors and we walked thru
*a lot* together, including my Moma's death.  He listened and loved, listened and offered
wisdom, and then listened and loved some more.  I've often said he provided some of
my best mothering because it's true.  I would *not* be the woman I am today were it
not for his precious presence in my life.

.     .    .     .      .

Yes, wise angels, these two dears in particular encouraged me to be Brave while also
providing the safe space and brave containers that I needed to process so many of my
feelings so I could do just that.

Blessed be.
