Treasured Spiritual Practice :: Creating an Altar

To the right of my marine-blue, 45+ year-old rocker recliner sits this little pine end table.  We refer to it as my heart table because there is a heart cutout on each of the 4 sides below the tabletop.  Up until last week, it held my wooden, spiral Advent wreath that Mary on her donkey and I walked for the 11th time last month. When it was time to put them up, I took great pleasure in creating this little vignette that will be watching over me in the next little while.

Smiling fondly as there is so much significance tucked in my little vignette, each piece speaks to me on a heart and soul level every time I look over at it, whether I realize it or not.  Sharing these thoughts here as intentionally gathering it all together was/is very much a treasured, spiritual practice.

I was smitten with the granddaughter snuggled up next to her grandmother the first time I laid eyes on the figurine and the two of them are never far from my line of sight.  It felt time to bring them back to the forefront for a little while, serving as a quiet, constant reminder that my beloved ancestors are never far away.

Once, when my “Guardian of the Home” angel was sitting in front of our lamp and facing out, a friend commented that it looked like she was blessing Bert and Ernie, my crutches.  I loved my angel before my friend’s comment and now I treasure her even more.  Her presence reminds me that angels are always gathered around protecting hubby and me, and our home.

The sweet little framed block found me recently and I love it’s gentle reminder “Be who you are & be that well”.  Gingham fondly reminds me of both my mother and my beloved grandmother so they are both smiling out at me from my little vignette as well.  (One year my grandmother made 16 smocked, gingham dresses, one for each of her granddaughters.)

My sweet snow angel, all dressed in white was a Christmas surprise from a dear friend.  And, of course, Gabriella, my rubber ducky angel had to make a guest appearance.  Grinning because she doesn’t stay parked there as the two of us are often elsewhere, always on the lookout for the places where I’m already held.

My “Grace will lead you home” block has been standing in its place since arriving 2-1/2 years ago.  I fondly nicknamed my Higher Power “Mama Grace” twelve years ago so she’s right there smiling out at me, too.

Visiting Mary after daily mass one day in December 2019, a mere 2-1/2 weeks before losing my father, I “just happened” to look down and saw this stray wood chip.  I was amazed by how much it looked like a hand so I brought it home with me.  A friend later commented that it's shaped like how someone holds their hand over our head when blessing us so it, too, has been a longtime anchor in my little table altar space since.

The angel dressed in pale orange was a Christmas gift from hubby, selected from my wish list.  (Grinning as there is almost always an angel on my wish list!)  This newest lovey is holding an hourglass and her skirt gently whispers to me “Be Patient with your Journey", dear heart.

Sweetheart angel next to her was a delightful surprise from hubby 6 Valentine’s ago.  He happened to see her in the card shop and wondered if I might like her.  Smiling as he had NO idea how much I would come to treasure her.  I love how she role models what it looks like to stand in my truth and offer what I have.  She’s not over-reaching nor does she cower.  She just quietly, steadily, simply stands in her truth and in her life, trusting it is Enough.

And, of course, she smiles fondly, the lace placemat with a piece of denim fabric underneath captures and mirrors my farmer’s daughter, country gal’s heart.

Blessed be.

To Bless the Space Between Us - Do you see it?

(Because I didn't ... at first.)

So yesterday morning I was taking a photo of the picture of this dear young girl,
my gentle teacher quietly reminding me to "Bless the Space Between [my sister,
who has stepped w-a-y back from our relationship, and me]" propped up against
the lamp right here next to my chair. Other than moving my clear little flowerpot
shaped votive holder (reminding me to Cultivate Joy, my word for this year),
I didn't move a thing.
Cropping my morning photo down to a square, I saw it.

Mary *is* looking out from behind "me." I love that she's a little above me, too,
so she can see both thru my eyes and also beyond me (for me).... she can see
farther out than what I can see. Ah, yes... *She* can offer love to my sister and
bless the space between us on the days when I simply cannot because the reality
is sometimes the years-long space between us hurts.

And behind her is the gentle reminder, "Let Yourself Be Held", a tender piece
I have loved (and clung to) for a very long time.

So then I pulled an angel card by cutting my deck: Close. I'm smiling again... *yes!*
Mary, Mama Grace, and all of my aunties are indeed Close to me, gently caring for
me, "looking out" for me (<-- so loving the double meaning of this one!), and watching
over me - even when I don't/can't see or realize it.

Before tucking my angel cards back into their box, I happened to notice that right
under Close was Mirror. I smiled to myself as I put the lid on my box and put it up
so I could move into getting ready for my day.

A few moments later as I was showering, I thought, "No. Mirror does belong, too!"
My little altar vignette is intentionally mirroring for me how to be (send love to my
sister as best I can each day) and also what is happening (all my mamas and aunties
are helping me). Then it brought a warm smile to remember that in a class I'm taking,
we were invited to look in an actual mirror.

So I went back and found Mirror and pulled it out.

And the card under Mirror?

 Root.

Yes! That fits, too! My faith, which I've learned to practice with some grains of salt,
has been a firm foundation for me. Plus looking tenderly into my eyes with the help
of a mirror and speaking gentle encouragements to myself is something I've done
for decades. All of this, for me, is about returning to the basics... the Root of it all

Love

And under Root?

 Receive.

Yes.

♥

Sweet soul, it really is ok to simply allow Love to see thru me, let myself be held
and trust that I am beloved and blessed.

It really, *really* is ok to simply Receive. Alls I hafta do is open my heart, as best
I can in each moment, Pause and Let Love In.

Oh, and the Mother Mary oracle card I drew?

Our Lady of Divine Presence.

Blessed be indeed.

Savouring January - Day 18 - Drink

Slaking this morning’s thirst
while keeping the icy chill at bay
with a hand-warming mug of creamy chai tea.

Rediscovering an old favorite cup
tucked in the back of our kitchen cabinet
has me smiling big
as I bask in the wonderful, Joy-filled surprise.

Blue!!
Purple!!
And sweet flowers!!
(All my favorites)

Throughout my day,
I almost always have
a cup of cool water to drink nearby.

A couple of other
reliable thirst quenchers for me
are a lit candle
and writing in my journal,
all while under the gracious sheltering presence
of Mama Grace’s gentle gaze.

Delighting in the dance.

New Year Angels

1.  Main Theme of the New Year - All is Well

2.  Departing energies from last year - Brilliant Idea!

3.  Talents I will be expressing this year - Peace.

4.  Future Opportunities - Relationship Harmony

5.  Upcoming Obstacles - Moon Cycles

6.  How to deal with upcoming obstacles - Hello from Heaven

7.  How to achieve my goals and dreams - Clear my space.

.       .       .

I'm smiling warmly, snuggling up into this spread.  Loving that the theme of
2018 for me with be "All is Well."  With a job hunt on the horizon, I welcome
the blessed assurance.

I'm not sure how Brilliant Idea is departing from last year.  Unless the idea
of resigning my position and also honoring my 40 beloveds is now behind me.

I love, *love* the notion of my expressing Peace in the upcoming year.

Relationship Harmony is actually feeling a bit like a theme for me.  In my
friendships, my wife-ing, my sistering, my auntie-ing, and, when the time comes,
my co-workering.

It might be interesting to see how the moon cycles affect my own mood and
bodily cycles.  Maybe it's about being aware.

Really appreciating the gentle reminder that I can count on those who have
gone before me to help me navigate any upcoming obstacles.

Clearing my space brought a big smile as that, too, feels like a theme.  It's
vital that I pay attention to my mindset (growth, please!), my activities (let's
practice focusing on one thing at a time rather than multi-tasking), and
the area around me as well.

Blessed be.

For fun, I drew a Soul Call card for each position.

Sighing a big ol' sigh of contentment at the idea that not only will All Be Well
in 2018, I will be Radiant.

Interesting how Create does dovetail with Brilliant Idea and I'm a little bummed
about the idea of that being the energy that is departing.

*Love* the idea of Weaving Peace into 2018.  I welcome that idea and am
struck by Weave is a word that comes up for me a good bit.

Close syncs up with Relationship Harmony beautifully.  The gentle reminder to
trust others and our relationship... perhaps especially when one of us gets
triggered.

I'm not sure what to make of Fire and Moon Cycles being upcoming obstacles.
Unless the fire of anxiety and forgetting to allow things to unfold as they will
and are meant to?

I am so touched by the angels and my dearly departeds reminding me that
who I am, what I do, and where I am is all Enough.  I can only do what my
capacity allows and it is Enough.

Yes!  In order to see clearly so that I can make good decisions, I need to be
aware of the mirrors around me and if they are clean and reflecting accurately.

Savouring January - Day 1: Still

On the days when I am feeling frazzled and/or down,
those days when I most need to let love in,
(and it's hard to even remember)
quiet time with candlelight,
being still,
and holding a heart,
all in the presence of Mama Grace helps.

2 Christmases, 19 years apart

A beautiful Moma and her dear girl,
watched over and held by Mama Grace
and the angels...

Still.

❤️❤️

As is sometimes the case with me, she says with a soft smile, this one holds more
vulnerable truth than I'm ready to share on my FB "living room" wall.

We had a mighty rough go in the 19 years between these two photos, my Moma and I.

But in the end? The stars aligned in such a way that we were able to make peace before
she died just 13 short days after the photo on the right on Epiphany (Jan. 6).

Between that and the discovery of my bone cancer on Dec. 14 (and my parents' divorce
8 days before on Dec. 6), I think that's part of why I so adore Advent. It's a season that
not only acknowledges, but honors the waiting we humans do which is sometimes an
aching l-o-n-g-i-n-g for things that just aren't possible... in this moment.

But,
she says with a soft smile,
that doesn't mean that healing will never come.

Ah, yes. It can and it does.

(Right, Moma?)
(and Mama Grace?)
(Right, Baby Girl.)

❤️❤️

Remembrance - Day 34 of 40

Two gentle guides
who saw all of me,
rough edges and all,
and,
while not in so many words,
reassured me that I was (am)
Enough
and lovable
just as I was (am).

Blessed be.

Remembrance - Day 31 of 40 - Part 2

Waking up this morning and coming to my chair,
I just couldn't bring myself to draw a new set of names.

In that moment, I knew . . .
I needed another day with my dear Moma.

And since this is my lovely little practice,
that is unfolding as I go,
I granted myself the permission
to follow my heart.

I love you, Moma!

Blessed be.

Tender Medicine

I'm still so enjoying my Soul Call "Story" Cards.  This reading is one that evolved over
the span of several days.  Each day, I'd pull a card (or two) and see what unfolded.

Today I spent some time with them to see what wisdom Mama Grace and the angels
might be whispering to me for the upcoming days.

.      .      .

The miracle is your dream is the dream of all of your ancestors.
Be open and curious, child, your dreams are the miracle.

The miracle, dear child, is that your dreams for healing and relief can come true, lifting
you up to a new level of Grace.  You are becoming a crone.

.      .      .

The miracle *is* is isn't just a dream.  The Grandmothers and Grandfathers *are* calling
you to Listen, Listen, child.  They want to lift you up onto their shoulders.  They want
to love and support you thru this holy Month of Remembrance.

.      .      .

In time and with practice, dear child, you have learned to listen well for the medicine
that is needed.  What if, for now, the Hope is in giving to yourself and letting the rest
go?
.      .      .

Listening is the medicine that restores and heals, lifting me back up on the road, the
journey that is my life.
.      .      .

Notice what Graces are offering themselves to you now, listening and looking for those
unearned and unimagined.  Undreamed wonders can lift and heal your broken child's
heart.
.      .      .

Grace is providing the restorative medicine your tender, aching heart, body, and soul
require to be healed.  To be ready and able to live the dream that you and your
ancestors are laying and have laid at your feet.

It can be a burden if you don't allow room and time for you to be supported and lifted.

Be still, child, and listen for Mama Grace's voice of love, protection, safety, cleansing
antiseptics, and soothing salves and balms.

You are being restored and loved and tended and listened to and supported and loved.

The miracle is this time is a gift - time you didn't think you needed or wanted - and yet
here you are and here it is.

Bask and Abide and Trust.

Blessed Be.

Shutter Happy ~ Day 12 ~ A Hobby

It brings me great pleasure to pair a quote
or a prayer that I love with pretty clip art.

Another favorite hobby of mine
is collecting hearts.

Shutter Happy ~ Day 9 ~ Play

Something that is very much play for me is creating little vignettes especially, she
says with a twinkly smile, when I have new things to include. Archangel Chamuel
is a new angel to me and I have a feeling that I shall enjoy getting to know him.
With Peace being my word for 2015, perhaps he already knows me? ❤️

. . .

This little scene speaks to me of "As best you can in each moment, Mirror Peace,
Brave Heart, and Peace will come back to you. (Hope, Grace, and Mercy, too.)"

Shutter Happy ~ Day 6 ~ Fave Spot in my House

My favorite place in our home is this corner where my comfy, 40-year-old rocker
recliner lives. Brown tweed clad and already broken in just right when Granddaddy
gave it to me, it's now covered in this beautiful mariner blue. Smiling fondly as it
provides my favorite view, too.

The wooden side table parked between where darlin' hubby and I sit often holds a
lit candle, an angel or two, and a favorite mug. Tucked on the shelf underneath are
many current favorite book companions, all within easy reach.

My treasured Grace tiles are on the south wall of our living room. Below them is
the charming wooden heart quilt rack that my brother made for me one Christmas.
Nestled on its shelf is a choir of angels, twinkle lights, and a lantern. Hanging below
is the beautiful farm-themed quilt made especially for me by my sister several years
ago.

In the far corner, above the dinette set that my father-in-law sat at as a small child
is one of my most treasured angels. From her place of honor (I can see her when
working in my kitchen as well), she peacefully reminds and reassures me of my
Moma's constant loving presence in my life.

In front of me and a little to my right is my cherished Quartet of Grace gathered
around and always looking over their red oil lamp "daughter," quietly reminding
me to Abide.

Blessed be.

Shutter Happy ~ Day 2 ~ Something that I Wear

It brings great delight
to be able to wear one of the special word companions
that have become quite dear to me on any given day.

...

And sometimes?
It's just the little Light I need to help get me thru.

Breathe September 2017 :: Day 5 - Movement

I shall miss watching my loves change into their beautiful autumn frocks on a daily basis
this year.

When taking this photo of my Dogwood Twins, Grace and Mercy, this afternoon I didn't
realize that one of my 4 Sisters, Michael, was winking at me from my side view mirror.

It brings me sadness to share that our last "everyday" day together will be next Friday and,
alas, it will also be my last day at my job of 13 years.  After much thought and prayer, I've
come to know that the new office is just way too far for me to drive.

As I feel my way into my next right thing, I trust these dear and cherished friends of mine
shall continue to watch over and send their blessings to me from afar.  Who says a tree
can't be a guardian angel? Certainly not me.

Your thoughts and pray would be welcome, too, friend.

Blessed be.
