Shutter Happy ~ Day 1 ~ Favorite Morning Beverage

Today is the feast day of our Guardian Angels and this chilly, cloudy fall morning calls
for a steaming cup of creamy chai.

As I silently sip and still, I am softly adding my voice to the melancholy chorus of
whispered prayers.

Smiling tenderly as these 2 beautiful lovelies were a gift from my precious Moma.
They remind me fondly of her and me.

🕯. ❤️. 🙏🏻

Abiding in Grace

I've been walking thru a pretty tough ol' time for awhile now.  Along with some old grief
surfacing in an unexpected and fiercer way than usual, I have a new supervisor who's trying
to force (and hotwire) a closeness between us.  Smiling softly because this is actually a pretty interesting turn of events.  Usually it's been me who's longing and, yes, pushing for more
closeness.

While I know in my heart of hearts she means well (just as I always did) and I do have hope
that, in time, we will find our way to a good working relationship, the reality of right now is
I'm finding it all smothering, frustrating and extremely draining.  Plus I've been triggered a
lot lately which has just added to the painful difficulty of it all.  This is so not how I want to
show up.

Still, I'm quite clear that my resources are very limited right now and that my hands are full
tending to my own weary and grieving heart.  In a way it's a gift that I'm so spent, making it
easier for me to truly understand and accept that, messy and imperfect as it all is, I just don't
have any room on my plate to take care of her, too.  So, as best I can in each moment, I gently
remind myself that it's ok to let all of that go for right now.

What I also know is I took care of my Moma in an unhealthy way and this is an opportunity
to practice saying some important and firm "no's" that I wasn't able to when I was younger.
This is a skill I want and need in my life and the only way I'm going to learn it is to practice.

Today I wanted to continue feeling calm and supported after yesterday's lovely dental visit.
It was *amazing* to me how much time spent in the presence of a kind angel in human form
helped to shift things for me.

This evening, I spent some quiet time in meditation, being still and Abiding in Grace.
(Abide is my word for this year and Grace is my fond nickname for my higher power.)
It warms my heart so much to see my face so relaxed.

Ah, so maybe all of this really will pass, too.

And, maybe, just maybe it already is.

May it be so.

Fall Beauty

It was still rainy and gray this morning.
Making the 4 Sisters breathtakingly beautiful.
I am especially partial to the Northern Sister, Michael right now.

It's hard to tell but the base of her trunk is gorgeous.

A close up of her.

(I know you can't really tell so I'll keep trying)

Thy Word is a Lamp

Hubby and I went for a lovely breakfast
at Cracker Barrel this morning.

I was enamored with this lamp
and so while waiting for my pecan pancakes,
I took this photo so I could remember.

I love the idea of looking for the light
as I Pilgrimage to Peace.

Remembering :: All is Well

The last couple days back at work, yesterday especially, were *rough.*  Our house is still a disaster from not fully being unpacked and I'm too weary to do anything about it right now.

Carving out time this afternoon to reclaim the space on the table next to me, nourish myself with candlelight and take in 5 Deep Breaths (for a start). It is so good to be the company of a beloved angel and, with the help of a beautiful song, to remember that All is Well

Morning Prayers

Morning prayers and 5 Deep Breaths.
(no filter)

Just wanted to share this photo
of my morning prayers this morning.

Smiling softly because I had thought
I might go to daily mass
after we watched the sunrise.

But then I realized
I was already filled
and my quiet time
with Mama Ocean
was Enough.

One Self-Care Move

With my hand over my heart, I took a quiet moment at work to read John O'Donohue's "For a New Home" from his book, "To Bless the Space Between Us."

This is becoming a very meaningful daily practice for me because, as I read his blessing, I gently remind myself that I am coming home into my heart more and more each day.

It touches my heart each time.

Moment of Stillness

Took a few moments at lunchtime to take 5 deep breaths.

I am taking Liz Lamoreux's Water Your Mama Soul e-course
(again) and feel so grateful for
a wonderful way to begin the summer.

Everyday Beauty :: Purple

It brought a smile of delight this morning
to realize that the pretty picture
on my current journal has purple in it.

I usually use plain spirals
and this one was a treat
for my birthday month.

Well, lookie here,
it's still blessing me.

Everyday Beauty :: A Moment of Joy

Quiet time spent writing
and remembering
my Moma
on Mother's Day
in the gentle presence
of one of my favorite
Grandmother tree companions.

We had a pretty rough go,
she and I.
But with time
and a whole lot of Grace,
it is good to remember her fondly
and to quietly celebrate
what she was able to give to me,
18 years after her passing.

Thankful Tuesday

Today I am thankful for:

1.  Warm, fond memories of my Grandma and Moma
2.  Companionship of sweet little crystal cut glass tea light holder
3.  Two unexpected cards from two friends
4.  Another perfectly glorious spring afternoon
5.  Slowing down and resting and being today - nourishment for my soul
6.  Early arrival of my new book, The Soul of a Pilgrim by Christine Valters Painter
7.  If the intro is any indication, I am going to *love* this one!
8.  Gift and honor of being able to help hold space for a dear friend.
9.  Playful moments with sweet hubby sprinkled in with this evening's errands
10.  Faint bleach smell of clean laundry
11.  Soft, comfy lavender gown, bought 6-1/2 years ago, still one of my faves
12.  Kind words extended when I reached out for support
13.  Writing a poem that helps me understand and come to peace with a sister
14.  Being able to listen to myself read and affirm it for myself
15.  How very much I love photo treasure hunts for everyday beauty
16.  A very good night's rest last night with plans to get into bed soon this night as well.

Nightie Night!

Everyday Beauty :: Something in my Hand

Fondly remembering my beloved Grandma today
and her beautiful rose bushes.
The pink and rose doll blanket on my lap underneath
was made for me either by her or my Moma,
I'm not sure which.
That's ok, she says with a fond smile.
I like, very much!, letting it remind me
of both of them,
two very dear-to-my-heart women.
I am grateful and proud to be their daughter.

Everyday Beauty :: Stillness

May is my birthday month
and I've always loved being a May baby.

This morning was such a beautiful spring day
and knowing it was the first day of May,
and with work going so much better,
I felt so content, blessed, and yes, still.

Beautiful, too.

(and very deeply grateful)

Night

Up again in the wee hours last night.

Grateful for this
Peace-filled scene
right next to me.

Smiling because I received some battery operated candles for Christmas.  I'm enjoying them - especially the timers!  But, to my surprise, not quite as much as I thought I might.
(Hubby knows me well)

There's something very soothing for me in the company of an actual flame.

Especially at night.
