An Ode to the Fellas

Faithful crutch friends,
Ernie and Bert,
always there,
ever alert.

Trusted companions,
lifelong support.
Devoted foundation,
securely escort.

Dancing our own
the fellas and me.
If it weren't for them
where on earth would I be?

  2. Thanks, Zoe!

Smiling because I named my crutches Bert and Ernie when our nieces and nephews were very small (we have 23 and our oldest is now 28). I wanted them all to feel comfy with the fellas from the get-go and I hoped naming them after a couple of muppet-guys they already knew, might help.

Turns out it's worked out quite well. Everybody in our large family knows who Bert and Ernie are and the younger ones still ask to borrow them and see how they do walking with them. We haven't lived near my family for 26 years now and it's so sweet to watch the older ones talk about how they can actually walk with them now so they are seeing their own growth because my crutches aren't taller than them anymore.

Smiling softly because it's like they are part of the family. Guess that's because they are. :)
